My first website was written with FrontPage ver 4 six years ago. I have just done a crashed in php/mySQL and rewrote the site with database backbone.

Lot of things have changed in the past 6 years, I am sure my FP4 is totally obsolete.

What would be considered a good and easy to learn and use editor that has the latest bells and whistles? Is Dreamweaver (what version?) one of the natural choice?

I want to create a similar effect as in the following site:

I want to have a horizon bar on the top with multiple buttons. When the button is clicked, I want new content to display below the bar. I also want to have the left column with url, where when clicked, display new contents on the right column.

I used to design this with Frame in FrontPage, but I was told the Frame design is not search engine friendly. The newer technique is in xhtml and css (at this moment, still Greek to me).

Back to FP4, is it friendly to xhtml?

For starters I would look at learning CSS, and HTML. Knowing that you can create the site you linked to even in Notepad.

WYSIWYG editors, can end up being a crutch rather a helpful tool, if you don't know the workings behind what you want to accomplish.

Once you have an understanding of CSS, and HTMl, you can then use Dreamweaver to aid you in creating the site. "aid" being the operative word.
