I have been coding web pages for a few years and any problems I have encounted have been syntax ones. However this one is new to me.

I am working on a work machine on an interanet I have tested a simple Hello World enclosed by html and body tags but when this is opened in a browser either through a jsp server (i.e. (WebSphere) or directly (i.e. c:\files\test.html) the syntax of the file is printed and not "Hello World".

I am using Internet Explorer 6 and was wondering if there is a setting that needs to be changed?

Many Thanks

It seems to be an issue regarding file extentions with Windows 2000.

Can you post the code on here? The only thing I can think of is just to double check the code and make sure you didnt forget to close any tags.

It is an extension issue. Make sure the extension is HTM or HTML. Anything else might act like you describe. For example SHTML will do what you describe.

The code inside the file is not the cause of the problem.

This is generally due to a mime-type/encoding problem with the file itself or the wrong file extension. See if adding a meta content tag helps - something like [ignore]<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1" />[/ignore]
