Hi guys,

I am considering buying a book and I just wanted to get your opinion.

The book is
"HTML & Web Design Tips & Techniques"
by Kris A. Jamsa, Konrad King, Andy Anderson
pub by Osbourse 2002

I checked it out in Helsinki a few weeks ago and it looks fairly comprehensive but before I commit (its bloody expensive here) I was wondering have any of you looked at this book or recommend a better "general" design and programming book??

I'd appreciate any comments or suggestions.

Thanks

Hi Cian,

I have a O'Reilly javascript reference that's called "Javascript The Definitive Guide" This book is realy the best javascript book I now.

So have a look at O'Reilly's HTML equivalent:
HTML & XHTML: The Definitive Guide 4th Edition

If I had to make a choice without the possibility to 'read/look at' it first I would buy an O'Reilly book.

Hope this helps,

I have heard of the O'Reilly books but know nothing about them. Thanks for the recommendation, i'll try to check that out.

my brother and I recommends this :

ISBN 1-56592-579-3
O'Reilly's "Html pocket reference" by Jennifer Niederst

It's really great in the sense that each tag tells you in wich browsers it works so you can choose what works in all browsers rather then just system specific or browser specific code.

The book is a reference however and doesn't have all the insight that another book might have in dealing with specific scenarios of web site building.

good luck whatever you choose. If you have questions about HTML when you are learning try asking in the HTML & CSS forum. Gary Haran

Sams Teach Yourself "anything" in 24 Hours are some of the best books I have come across The secret of life is honesty and fair dealing. If you can fake that, you've got it made.

Hi guys,

Thanks for the replies. Well I know HTML fairly well so it's something more advanced I am looking for. The book I quoted covers XHTML, some Javascript, ASP etc and also looks at the cross browswer design issues etc.

Thanks again
