htaccess not working 2

Hi,

My htaccess user/pass dialog box is coming up but it won't accept my password. It just keeps popping the box up.

I have AllowOverride set to All... I have .ht files set properly in my httpd.conf and I have all my paths set properly within the .htaccess file and I've done the htpasswd bit properly.

Any other ideas?

Is there any other way I can tell? I am able to open it, cat it, and whatnot.

Examine httpd.conf to determine the user under which Apache is running.

Perform "ls -l" on your .htpasswd file.

If you were Apache's user, do the permissions and ownership of the file look like they'd let you do it? ______________________________________________________________________

Apache runs under the user/group apache/apache.

The owner of my .htpasswd file is root.

Ah, yes. The permissions were set wrong -- I missed reading that part in sleipnir's post.

Now it's 644 and all is well.
