.htaccess in subfolder = forbidden msg mainfolder?

I'm using Apache 2.0.
If I password protect a subfolder with .htaccess I get a
"Forbidden
You don't have permission to access /MainFolder/ on this server."
message in my main folder. Why? (there is no .htaccess file in my main folder)
Note: Everything worked fine before the server was upgraded to Apache 2.0.

Did you create a directory container for that sub-directory in httpd.conf?
