hey i was wondering if you can use htaccess on free website hosts like angelfire and geocities

ciao

bpvwebdesigns,

From experience, Portland are a terrible host, their uptime used to be below 50% per month.

If you use them, then don't complain when the site is never up.

Hope this helps Wullie

Hi again,

Wullie is right, sometimes they have bad uptime.

I also used with .htaccess before, you may want to try them.

I know Geocities will NOT support htaccess though.

Hope this helps as well ___________________________________________________

Hello again,

AVOID Hostonce.com

I have heard many horror stories with that company, I myself checked into hosting my clients with them.

I now am considering a better host called they are in C|Net's Top 5.

And they are in Wisconsin, not to far from the Chicagoland Area, so that reassures me, unlike hostonce, where your data is served in an unnamed data-center in Austraila

Check out this list for good hosts, that have been professionally reviewed.

The catch with ReadyHosting.com is that they Use Win2k not apache! So .htaccess does not work.

I would also like to apologize for my content in the last post, It was considered to be spam, so again I was posting late at night, and I guess my thought process was a little off.

Good Luck in your Ventures :)

hey

i just asked my friend who's signed up on it and he said it worked but apparently they are quite strict with the content and i cant go with readyhosting cause my website is a media website so i need unlimited space at a cheap price

know of any other hosts that fall under that category??

so if there's no other host i guess ill go with hostonce and if it stuffs up too bad then ill go elsewhere

ciao

Hi mate,

Word of warning but never ever trust a host that tells you they offer unlimited disk space or bandwidth.

As soon as you start using more than they are happy with, you will be kicked from the server or told to pay more money, I have seen this happen many times in the past.

Hope this helps Wullie
