I recently found several articles on htaccess files, which allow you to customize an error page (like for 404 errors). However, I also checked my web site host and found something that none of the articles mentioned ...

If you're using FrontPage, modifying the htaccess files can corrupt your extensions. Apparently my host has had a lot of problems with this one because they mentioned it at least five times in the article. So, use caution if you choose the modify your htaccess page.

for thr time being, I have one site with 2 domain names which reqires additional code in the .htaccess file. The problem is, even if you change .htaccess to what frontpage wants just to upload the site, then chsnge it back, anything you have on that site that uses the extensions will not work. It is no fun. I don't see why front page HAS to have the exact code it wants in that file, no more, no less. If they are gong to do that, atleast give more options in frontpage to do the things you would normally alter .htaccess for!

Thank you!!!

Also check with your hosting company. Most of them now offer a customized 404.htm file. And they set it up for you. And then you just upload a new 404.htm file.
