I'm trying to password protect a directory, without having access to the administrator tools for IIS. In Unix (I'm an old *nix hand) you just use .htaccess and .htpasswd for whatever directory you want to password-protect. Is there an equivalent in IIS?

ummm.... I'm not an old Unix hand but I do know that Unix is an OS and IIS is a Web Server application, there is a big difference.

If you are trying to create OS level protection in NT or Windows 2000 you need to be logged on with administrator privileges, then just use Windows Explorer to set the permissions for the file/folders you desire.

Right click the file or folder and select 'Properties' on the popup menu. Then the tab titled 'Permissions' should grab your attention.

Good luck
-pete
