Can someone give insight what these logs on the L3 4500 switch points to :
*May 1 10:45:49.011: %STANDBY-3-DUPADDR: Duplicate address 10.xx.xx.xx on Vlan40, sourced by 0000.0c07.ac00. I'm clueless as my research lead towards nowhere.
1. %STANDBY-3-DUPADDR: Duplicate address [int] on [chars], sourced by [sci_notation]
An IP address for a router that uses Hot Standby Router Protocol (HSRP) is the same as the IP address for another router. This condition might be caused by a misconfiguration or a malfunctioning switch.
Recommended Action: Check the configurations on all the HSRP routers, and ensure that all the switches are functioning properly.

Also make sure you have no spanning tree loops on that subnet. check spanning tree and find out hwere the root is and the last time a topology change hgappend. You will see dup address errors when you get that as hsrp flops back and forth between active and standby .
how could I verify if there is any loop forming in the subnet. This is the the only subnet where I am getting the error logs. I have checked the topology change for this subnet but the timing didn't coincided with the timestamp of the hsrp duplicate address message. Also the standby IP and vlan40 IP ain't the same.
I traced the topology change on vlan 40 to a access layer switchport. I enabled portfast on this port. But the strange thing is that the port was in different vlan to vlan40.
