HSM and Samba

Does anyone have experience with the following:

When a HSM (Hierarchical Storage Management) directory under AIX gets exported to the Win NT/2000 world
with Samba, the Win explorer seems to want to see the whole files residing in the directory. Even if files are only highlighted but not realy accessed, migration back from the tapes gets started.

Are there any suggestions how to connect the Windows world and take advantage from Hierarchical Storage Management under AIX ?

any hints appreciated
