href value invalid for XHTML 1.0 strict?

Apparently, any a href attribute including a url in the form "

http://site.com/form?x=a&y=b&z=c"

is invalid under XHTML 1.0. Anybody know how to display such a url so as to make it valid in XHTML 1.0?

It is one of those things we all know for the rest of the page but ignore it in href attribute. If you want to output an ampersand in HTML, you need to write &amp; The same goes for ampersands in href attributes. Just change those, the page will validate and the links will still work across all browsers.

You can also try using a semicolon instead of an ampersand.
