I have recently installed a new HP Color Laserjet 4600N printer in a novell environment. The wkstns are w98, w98se, and w2k. All have the most current updates/fixes/patches/etc...
Once the user reboots or logouts out/in, the driver is gone???
Does anyone have any clue? This ones got me stumped.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Start, Run, net start spooler

Does it reappear?

Tried that on all platforms and it did nothing. I can install and use the printer w/out any problems during the current session. Once they log out or the pc is rebooted it's like the printer was never installed???

Thanks anyways for the tip. I appreciate you taking time to try and assist me with this issue.

Thank you, that helps diagnose the issue.

1. for the "N" series HP printer, it should be setup as a local printer, (not network), with the TCP/IP port then defined. I understand the printer is "on the network", but as far as most NT versions are concerned in the absence of a formal printer server it is a local printer with a TCP/IP port.

2. It can be difficult to remove as completely as you must a faulty printer driver. See Bruce Sanderson, MVP, notes here:

3. When the printer disappears: Start, Run, cmd
sc query spooler
to see the current running status of the spooler.

Thanks again for all your help.
Turns out that when these particular accounts were originally setup in novell, they were set to only allow access to certain printers. Therefore, when they logged out/in, the new printer was disallowed. I logged out as user and back in as myself and the printer remained but disappeared as the users in that department.
We did some digging and found the problem to be with the way the individual accounts were setup.
These were some of the very first accounts to be setup in the then new novell 5.x environment.
Stupid oversight on our part.
Thanks again for all your help.
