HP870Cse installed and recongized but does not print

We had an HP870CSe printer installed onto a computer using Windows NT4.0 - was working fine. We then needed to swap computers and installed the HP870cse onto a windows me computer. Now, the printer does not print anything. It is installed and recognized in on the Win Me computer, however it does not print. It flashes an error "Printer time out" - does anyone know how to troubleshoot this problem - we have uninstalled and reloaded the drivers, retrieved the latest drivers from the Hp website - still nothing. Can anyone help?? "Try everything at least once."

Have you tried a new printer cable? sounds foolish, but i've spent hours troubleshooting a printer to find out that the cable had a short.

Did you disable the system restore "feature" in me? the machine may be reverting to the previous default driver. Can you ping the printer from a dos window or cmd prompt?
