Hi all,

Got a problem, we have started to implement HP7700 across one of our clients, and we're having issues.

they are built with xp pro sp2, with a novell client 4.91-sp3 the problem we have is IP seems to stop working at times, but IPX stays working.
even on boot up, you can leave a ping going for upto 100 attempts before you get a reply, yet the ipx session is available straight away. the tree and server are set to ip address, so it log's in using ip... the novell client protocol pref's are set to ip before ipx. we still need ipx on these sites, but i'm not sure why other makes of pc's have always been able to handle ip\ipx properly?

anyone able to help.

If you try to fail, and succeed, which have you done?

Agree with the Marvinator - try this link and do an "SLPINFO" at the command prompt on a working machine and then non-working machine and compare. Then configure the non-working client to match the working client per the document.

Obviously ignore the SPECIFIC SLP info and IP addresses given in that document.

thank you both, i'll give it a go.

just unsure why the new HP pc's have this problem, but the Dell's and Digipos pcs are ok?

The ability to Ping really doesn't have anything to do with being able to locate a server. That's what SLP is there for. Also, if you are installing the Novell client new, the default is IP only.. in the past it was IP & IPX. With IPX you would never see this problem because of the way IPX broadcasts.
