HP4650dn - really slow print spool

You say a variety of platforms? Or a variety of stations?
How is it networked? Is is controlled, for example, by a Windows 2000 or 2003 machine, then shared from there?
Are you running Active Directory?
If you print directly to the TCP/IP port, instead of going through the server, does the problem go away?
What type of files? PDF? Windows test page?
