HP4000 Printing Slowly

We have a small office network (server on WIN2000; workstations on XP) with several HP4000 printers attached to some of the workstations and setup for sharing.

When we print from MSWord 2000 or Corel Wordperfect 10 the printing is well below the 18+ pages per minute that we should be getting. It doesn't seem to matter if you're printing to the printer attached to your computer or one of the network printers it's still very slow. It's almost as thought it's treating each page as an image file. The one computer on the network that is still WIN98 prints fast!?!

I have to think we've just got them setup incorrectly, but I'm at a loss.

Your help is greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Are you using a PCL or PostScript driver?

I've had trouble with many of the PCL6 drivers. Reverting to PCL5 has worked everytime so far.

Same here.

Had the same problem. Realized the printer was configured with the Windows XP driver. Installed the printer with the HP printer driver and the speed of print process and output increased.
