HP3380 - Scan function over network?

In the office we just got a new HP3380 printer/scanner/copier/fax. We bought a no-name printer server. The print function is okay.

The problem is that we cannot scan/fax via the network. HP says that we need one of their printer servers (JetDirect 170x or 175x) to be able to scan over the network.

Is there another way around this problem? Maybe a SCSI-over-IP driver or such?

I am aware that we could just connect it to our server, but we'd rather not if there is another way to fix it!
