I have an e-machines PC running Xp home edition. My Hp1210 all in one is connected by a USB cable. My problem.... I cannot print to the thing on my own "limited" user account but have to log on with the administrator account. I searched the Hp website ( for an answer & found this depressing statement: "In Windows 2000 and XP, you must have Administrator or Power User level access to the computer to use the all-in-one drivers to print. To change permissions levels, do one of the following:...."
I tried changing the permissions as suggested but I still cannot print.
Does anyone know a easy workaround to this, or if there is a different driver available for the printer that can be used in a user account or WHY Hp are selling a product that needs administrator access to use??

I am trying to fix a friend's OfficeJet v40, and I am having the same problem. I tried the suggestion for modifying the System32 directory permissions that is on HP's site, but it still does not work. The minute I make someone admin, voila, it prints like a champ.

Finally, I called HP and talked to a tech. Although she tried to help, in the end her supervisors or next upstream tech person told her to tell me that since I had one user that could print, it was not HP's problem! They told me to call the OS vendor to figure out was wrong with the permissions.

I was floored. I do not think this is Microsoft's problem, although I have had a Microsoft program do the same thing once. HP designed the driver badly, or they did a bad system design that required the driver to need these rights. Either way, there does not seem to be a way out.

There final suggestion was to reinstall the printer software for every user account. I am going to try this on one account - change it to admin, reinstall package, change back to limited. After that, I have no tricks left in my bag.
