I am having hardware problems with a HP C3000 I was given. I was told it was fine when they powered it down. I am trying to upgrade the OS to HP-UX 11.0. The CD Drive is IDE, but I cannot get it to boot from the CD. I am new to Unix SysAdmin. (vi, user admin etc I can handle) but Hardware and OS functionality is causing my hair to fall out.
Any good reference book or .url to get me through this would be great.

Hi,

Have you tried rebooting the machine back to multiuser, and checking that the CD drive looks OK by using ioscan,
#ioscan -kfnC disk (that it is claimed) and
#diskinfo /dev/rdsk/c2t2d0

and then mounting and unmounting a CD. At least you'll be sure then that the drive is not faulty. Then reboot with your CD in, interrupt in the ten second interval, interract with ISL. Search for bootable devices (SEA), look for the CD drive and BO P* (where P* is the P number of the CDROM).

Hope this helps
Clare
