have been struggling with the following problem since we bought the server...
The IBM server has a ServeRAID 7K controller, and it takes over the on board embedded SCSI controller. The ext. HP Ultirum 448 drive is attached to the planner SCSI connector, but the backup failed. We are using ArcServe r11.1 SP1, with the error 3855 unable to position media (EC=controller failure or Hardware error). I've talked to HP and IBM, and apparently the tape drive doesn't work under RAID environment. IBM claims the ServeRAID will automatically take over the embedded SCSI, and there's no way to turn it off.
My question is: could i add a PCI SCSI card and hookup the tape drive to it? Will the ServeRAID takes over the PCI SCSI controller as well?
