HP Surestore utlrium 230 standalone tape drive on a Solaris 8 box

I am trying to configure a HP Surestore ultrium 230 standalone tape drive on a Sun E450 server running Solaris 8. According to everything I have read, this should work and there shouldn't be a need for any special drivers.

I hooked the tape drive up, ran a boot -r, took it down to the ok prompt, ran a reset-all and a probe-scsi-all and I don't see the tape drive.

Do I need to add anything to st.conf? If so, what is the syntax? Am I missing anything else?
