Hi all,

Running Vista OS, 32 bit. Printer ethernet cable to Hub. Hub eithernet cable to PC.

Had an AIO 7410 OfficeJet and now a CM2320 MFP LaserJet.

In both cases after installing, and using the scanner via the HP Solution Center, the HP Solution Center unexpectedly cannot detect any HP devices. However still can print from the PC.

In the former case, over a period of 3 years, I had to reinstall the software numerous times to "fix" the problem.

I don't want to have to repeat this reinstall process for my new laserjet.

Does anyone have a solution for this problem?

Are you installing the MFP software and all it's stuff?
If using the older install, may just be corrupted files.

Initially installed from the CD supplied with the product.

hi,
how can do SW browse on the lan for HP Devices ?
Probably it makes a broadcast on specific port
and wait for answer. Probably, firewall or other things,
block this and nothing backs to the ws.

1) try to off firewall, or other, and try again.

2) why add "unuseful" SW (HP Solution Center) to an
already mixing unuseful feature OS? Take IP address of the
printers, add 2 ports and configure manually, during Adding Printer Wizard, the printers. You'll print!

I cannot SCAN from the PC.

I do not consider the HP Solution Center "unuseful", unless there is a way to SCAN from the PC without the HP Solution Center.

I agree. The workd "unuseful" doesn't com close tp describing the nightmare of the HP Solution Centre.

I have three HP printers attached. One is a C6100 wireless accessed via its wireless functionality. The second is a 5440 on my router accessed from this and other computers using a local TCP/IP RAW port and the third is a F2100 attached via a USB to this PC. The 2100, although only 5 months old is broken and will not feed paper, just like other HP printers that I bought and had to abandon.

HP Solution Centre reports ...

A printer called $friendly name$ (what on earth is that)
HP Photosmart 2160 (doesn't work but at least it gets a mention)
Another printer called $friendly name& (oh boy!)
HP Deskjet series 5400 on Router (Which sometimes works)

Following an unnecessary and intrusive update of HP software, the Solution Centre now looks totally different and will not report ink levels for the 5440. Luckily my router is more intelligent and will do so ! It reads the printer status where the HP software will not!

I have managed to dump most of the unwanted software that HP insiste on installing every time I add a printer, but this wretched solution centre will not go away ... and I am not sure how I would scan without it.

My suggestion to HP is that they concentrate on improving the physical reliability of their hardware (with special attention to the simple task of drawing paper off the in tray and into the printer) and stop pretending that they undertand how to develop software.

... and by the way, I do not want their Customer Expeience software on my system. But when I try to uninstall it I get a warning that drivers may not work propery if I do. What a load of tosh. Or do they mean that this piece of software includes driver functionality in it? If so, why?
