Our Web server (HP Proliant DL380) keeps forgetting one of the applications that runs on it. All the Web sites and other apps will be fine, but this one application will time out in the browser with the "server application error" message page. We can still ping the IP address of this app. We can fix the problem by disabling and re-enabling the NIC (or rebooting the server). We have also had this problem once with another ASP.NET application, but it happens almost weekly on this one application, and never with anything else. Restarting services or the site or application pool doesn't help. It's more of a nuisance problem right now, but we're wondering if this is more likely a software issue or if it's an ominous sign for the server NIC? It did seem to start happening right after the server was updated with Microsoft security updates, but that could be a coincidence. Thanks for any help!

You could try applying the latest driver version via the Proliant Support Pack, just go to rhe link below and search for your DL380 (is it a 1st Generation or ;later?)

You could also disable any NIC sleeping settings if any applies, or even create yourself a http ping tool that will ping the http website to keep it alive every few minutes or so?

Also check your servers Event Viewer for any ASP errors or any errors in general that may give you a clue.

I believe the NIC is onboard. Thanks.

Yeah, I'd look at the latest Firmware Update CD...

If they're the NC373s or other rebranded broadcom NICs, you definitely want the latest driver. It'll disable the TCP offload stuff that causes major headaches and failed keepalives, sessions that never close and exhausing sessions. On the HP subject, what processors do you have? If they're dual core AMD Opterons, then you want to put /usepmtimer in the boot.ini and reboot. See:
