I recently purchased a HP Scanner G3010 which is capable of scanning 2400-9600dpi and slides/negatives.

I had trouble with the install. Contacted HP several times and because we could not solve the problem, they sent me another CD. That one did same thing.

Problem first off occurred just after 5% of the initiating install. HP Update Application screen advised to send report for help. I clicked do not send as I do not have internet. The install continued. I tried to scan a picture and got message: cannot find C:\program files\hp\digital imaging\bin\...skins\00v1\sc\scan.html

I remember I had a similar location error when I had my old scanner, HP Scanner 3300 since 2001. For the last few years, when I used Norton Win Dr, it found a missing program file which it could not correct.
Missing C:\Program Files\HP\Digital Imaging\bin\hpqgrcpy.exe cannot access a necessary file “hpgreg32.dll”. I was always able to scan as before so I ignored the missing file message.

I know I had problems a while back where some of my files were inadvertently deleted and I had some chore trying to get all working again.

I have HP Pavilion computer with two HP printers and run Windows XP. I am not connected to internet so for any problem solving, I need to do by phone or public use internet.

If I were able to find a download of this missing hpgreg32.dll file and copy it to the bin location where it should be located, would that aid in the new scanner install?

I thought maybe if I re installed my old scanner that missing file would show up and I could carry on. But when I tried to re- install my old scanner, it would not initiate at all. Said would not work for Win95 and NT. Needed Windows98.

Hope someone can give me some ideas..

Hmm, it sounds like your Windows XP installation might be broken. You said "I had problems a while back where some of my files were inadvertently deleted", can you be more specific? Were these Windows system files or just documents?

Do you still have your Windows disc?

We kept getting the same error (on Vista) and support told us to register the vbrun6.dll (forget the name) in windows\system32 and run the install again.

it worked, but the old scanner kept trying to reinstall.

turned out to be viruses all along.

sorry to be so late in getting back to you. I ended up returning the G3010 and ordered the G4010 (next model up)
still had the same problem.

I was on phone with HP support for quite some time doing all sorts of things they guided me through. at the end, the fellow said I may have to re install windows.
the next day...I had lost all my own software programs which I had installed. I was so upset. Luckily, I did have most of them backed up.

I ended up reformatting my HD totally and re installing Windows XP. I was able to get G4010 installed and it seemed to work okay. But I was disatisfied with the software included with it. AND the slot where one puts the strip of negative was very difficult to use. I could not get the strip in at all. I have since returned that also.

still looking for a scanner.

thanks for all your info.
