HP Scanjet 4100 not working,XPpro

I have been running xp since its release and the scanner was working fine. Nothing to my knowledge changed ,but now, no scanner. It shows up ok in appsas HP Sc4100c, but not in control-panel-scanners and cameras. I have downloaded the file from HP ,sj653mu which is supposed to be the right one, but it will not install. Gets to about 3/4 and fatal error. Anyone have a clue?? TIA. Kelly
