HP PSC 750 Multifunction Printer

Just bought this printer. When following the instructions with the printer, I find the CD's install does not even start.
I have a new HP7955 computer, with Windows XP. The computer has a Wizard which installs but those instructions are just the reverse of what the Printer instructions are. Printer say's NOT to connect the USB cable until after installing with CD. Computer Wizard says to connect cable first, when follow steps on screen. Am thinking the printer instructions may not be for the new Windows XP on my computer, got any idea which way I should turn?
