I just bought the HP PSC 500 Printer, Copier, Scanner and I set it up properly, but while I was installing the software, it failed it's communication test. I've tried everything, turning it on and off, reconnecting the cables. I went to their website and they said try printing it in DOS and it worked but whenever I try in Windows the error message saying Product Error: A Two-way communication with the product could not be established. Is there a wat to fix this?

Thanks

try setting the bios for the lpt port to a different setting
if it is on ecp or epp try bi-directional.You could try each one until it works.

HP says (in the bios) your parallel port should be set for Bi-directional at minimum. If you have the option for "ECP" that is what you should use. You also need to be sure that the cable is IEEE 1284C-compliant. If it's an older cable (even if it worked with a previous printer) it might not be suitable. The bi-directional communications are needed by the windows driver but not supported in DOS (so "good-old DOS" gives you no error message!). good luck, hope this helps

Thanks, but I've tried all those and none of them worked. My BIOS choices for the parallel port are only Normal, ECP, EPP, and ECP+EPP. All of those don't work. I've checked for conflicting drivers but to no avail. I used the cable that came with it, which is IEEE 1284C-compliant. Unfortunately The HP PSC 500 doesn't support USB. Oh well, I guess i'll return it an get a different one. :(

Thanks Anyways.
