I'm encoutering problems trying to access a MS SQL database form the Workstations. The Server is HP PROLIANT DL380 G5 running WIN2K3 Small Business Server (SP2).

The following error is returned at all workstations running WINXP_PRO (SP2):

[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][TCP/IP Sockets] ConnectionOpen. Connection Failed: Error=11004; SQLState:01000......Specified SQL Server not found.

I am able to browse the Server directories from the workstations, though.

Can anybody help me to resolve this issue?

Rgds,

This is not a fault with the HP server so really you should post this in the relevant SQL or Windows forum...

However the usual default port for SQL is Port 1433 but I have personally noticed that SQL Express can configure itself for dynamic port allocating. I would check in SQL Manager and see what port SQL is configured to listen on, then see if you can telnet to the server on that port to see what response you get.
