HP PRINTER 950

I'm currently running windows xp with a HP printer(950 deskjet).Is it true that a low black ink cartridge will make the printer do some strange things while trying to print a document,such as funny characters on top of paper, and keep running blank sheets out?

Simply turn this printer off for a couple of minutes and it should clear itself of the malfunction....you might need to do it a couple of times and leave off for a few more minutes.
