HP Pavlion slow keyoard

I am using an HP pavilion ze4125 and Windows XP pro. My keyboard will only work if I type extreemly slow. Random keys often do not register. Does anyone know what the problem may be or how I might fix it.

Control Panel > Keyboard. Set speed of typing. First, look in setup (on boot), and see if "typematic" rates are set. If so, disable the "typematic" entry.
