HP Pavillion 6000 series Shutdown Problem

I've had my Pavillion Laptop for several months now and am pretty happy with it, No problems till this.

'Occasionally' when shutting down, it will reach the "Windows is now shutting down' screen and freezes (always at this point). Ctrl+Alt+Del doesn't work and there is no Reset button like on the Desktop. My only option is to hold the Power Button down for several seconds.

I did a msconfig and went through my Start Up menu and shut down everything except what was necessary and it still made no difference.

I also turned off the Hibernate option as it 'seemed' to happen if it went into hybernation or even standby prior to opening back up and shutting down.

HP Support wasn't of much help. They said if it keeps up that I could do a reinstall of Windows...yeah right.

Any idea what could be happening? I'd hate to keep resorting to shutting down with the power button even though it happens only occasionally. Thanks.
