I know this is a manufacturer specific question, but perhaps not. I just purchased a new HP Slimline S5310F desktop which has no PS/2 ports exposed. It comes with USB Kbd and Mouse. I use a StarTech PS/2 4 port KVM switch to link my central monitor/kbd/mouse to my four systems. I purchased a pair of PS/2 female to USB Male adapters to allow me to plug the PS/2 cables into USB ports. But that doesn't seem to be recognized.

Is anyone aware if this system will work with PS/2 style input devices connected with these adapters to the USB ports?

Of course, I can still use the devices that came with it but that would mean an extra pair of devices on my desktop.

Suggestions please? Thanks

That's a KVM issue, sounds like. Have you tried w/o the KVM switch?

But if your system didn't come with PS/2 and you need PS/2 then it comes down to picking the right hardware.... or you could look at a KVM switch that supports both USB and PS/2.

Also, you say the system has no PS/2 ports, but the keyboard/mouse that came with it are PS/2? If so, you ought to go back to where you bought it, and get the right kind of keyboard/mouse for your system... assuming this was a new system.

I've had bad experiences with mouse adapters - serial to PS2, and USB to PS2. You may have to decide which is more important to you - the new compact HP CPU, or compatibility with your PS2 KVM switch.
