HP Openview and X-Windows

Does anybody know whether HP openview blocks requests from X-Windows- I can remote connect into a Sun Solaris station using an X-Window product but I am not able to see the HP openview network map which is running on the solaris console - is there any reason why this may be the case and if so is there a way to rectify it ?

Could you check the value of the environment variable $DISPLAY please?

It needs to be set like this: (korn or posix shell)

export DISPLAY=172.31.30.24:0

or

export DISPLAY=host.name.com:0

where the IP address or the hostname refers not to the Solaris Station but to the PC (or whatever) that you are using to connect to the Solaris Station. Mike

Thanks for answering my question on techtips. I have tried your command and on both occasions I keep getting:-

DISPLAY=172.31.30.24:0 is not an identifier

My understanding of XTERM is that you login with another session so you will not see the one running on the console.
You can however run OVW from the CDE window or the command line.
If you do not have the environment variables set you may have to enter the path :-
/opt/OV/bin/ovw
If you are using a PC XTERM package like Exceed this will send the "DISPLAY" and "export" commands when you start the session.
If you wish to see what is on the console you should run VNC this works like PCANYWARE and can be down loaded from

http://www.uk.research.att.com/vnc,

this is available for UNIX and PC platforms.

It is obviously that you are using sh and not ksh shell, so the export command should be taken in two steps...like:
DISPLAY=xx.xx.xx.xx:0.0
export DISPLAY


then start opc....

yeah - I know what you mean. Looking at it again I think the OP was entering the command like this:

$DISPLAY=172.31.30.24:0

instead of

DISPLAY=172.31.30.24:0

Leaving the $ in front of the variable name... I *think* that's what causes this error message, can't remember now and I don't have a UNIX system up and running at the moment. Mike

use ovw & -display ip_address:0 when execute OV
& for execute theis in separate windowd and IP_address if you dont export the display variabke
