HP officejet 9120 with 620n print server installed

I'm not IT, but have some minor experience on hardware. I bought a HP 9120 with print server installed, I wanted to share it over the local net. My laptop is on this small network & the HP is also connected to another point in the network. I am unable to get the device to scan & send to my laptop. I feel I'm close to solving this, but HP have been of little use & the help files with the installation are also for IT proffs!
I am able to print to the HP via the network but don't understand why it will not scan?

any ideas!
