I recently started trying out Windows 7 on my "main" system at home. Everything has been great, except for now one thing that I just realized yesterday.

My Printer/Scanner all-in-one unit still works fine with anything, except for 64-bit Windows 7, it seems.

Here's what I know so far:
1. When I first connected the printer to the computer, with Windows 7 installed, Windows recognized it correctly, and installed.
2. I also have it installed over a network print server (D-LINK DPR-1260). Well, the little file for the printer install accross network installed seemingly correctly.
3. Now when I try to print, Windows tells me there's been a print error. The printer will grab the paper, and move the print heads like its going to print, and just sit there until I finally cancel the print job - at the printer.
4. If I try to scan, I just get a message saying "scanner error", but I don't get more information than that. Of course that error message is coming from a web based Java program, not from within Windows - so perhaps if I try to scan from within Windows directly, I'll get a more detailed error message.
5. I searched for a Windows 7 64 bit driver on HP's website, and all they say is that Windows doesn't need an external driver with Windows 7.

Does anybody have any advice on this one? Is there a way I can run a printer driver in "XP Mode" to make it work with Windows 7 correctly, until the drivers may possibly get worked out?

-Yes, I realize this printer's getting old, but the thing has been through all sorts of things, and won't die. That, and it still outprints many new printers in speed and quality, and seems to have good scan quality as well. The only major issue I've had is it grabbint more than one sheet of paper at a time - particularly photo paper and CD label sheets.

One thing I've not yet tried (and I'll try to do this evening) is to download the diagnostic utility for Vista 64 bit, and see if it runs. Vista says the same thing as Windows 7 on the driver - that Windows installs the driver automatically.

I suppose after that, I may as well give the XP driver package a shot. I wouldn't think it will work, but it won't hurt to try.

In Windows 7 right now, it shows the printer is there, can set as default printer, etc, but can't scan from or print to... well, it'll start to print to it, but never complete a print. Our Vista laptop - prints, scans, etc, no issues at all... same with XP (XP with the XP driver package installed).

And, hmm..., it looks like there were some sort of issues with the printer on 64-bit Windows XP as well..

One final update. The printer is an Officjet 6110, not 6000 as I put in the title a while back.. but I doubt that'd make a difference.

I did some piddling with setting up a network printer manually, and got it working on the Win7 desktop over the DPR1260 print server, so all is good...

If you have notice my thread i too am having problems with 64bit drivers for a Zebra printer (completely different printer i know) Im guessing that people writing these 64bit drivers arnt testing them...

hope you get your answer.

626F62,

If you read my last post, you'd see that my issue is resolved.

Come to think of it, I think I may have ended up reinstalling that system anyway in the midst of that issue, which may be what fixed the driver issue to begin with. :)
