I recently had a paper jam on my HP office jet model 610. After clearing the jam, I was unable to get the error notice cleared in the view window and cannot use the printer. Can anyone offer suggestions for why it won't clear? I cannot see any damage anywhere.

Unplug the printer - reboot the computer, this will clear the "cache" in both.

Triple check you have cleared the jam. Remove all paper trays, remove the cartridge. Sometimes a small piece of paper remains behind still 'caught'.

Thanks to stduc, micker377, and mainegeek for the answers.
1. Power has been off and on several hundred times since this problem occurred as has rebooting daily since I don't leave my system on overnight. For stduc, I haven' done any (nuts & bolts) disassembly yet to ensure everything is o.k., but I have checked the paper path pretty thoroughly. I was hoping someone might know where all the sensors are that might be stuck. I don't know them or waht they look like.

seadubya,
I have several printers with the same symptoms as yours.
I haven't torn into these either but I am assuming that with all the moveable parts, and most of them being plastic, that when the paper jammed it probably caused a gear to jump a bit which probably knocked the whole thing out of synch. I know this statement doesn't help your current problem but I wanted to let you know that it is fairly common. I personally don't mess with printers very often because of the mess and I really have no idea as to what I am doing or what I am suppose to be looking for. It usually ends up being a waste of time for me.

Thanks mainegeek for the reply. If I figure it out I will let you know.
