I have an HP Pavilion 700 that had a cable modem that was struck by lightning. The computer isn't working anymore and I think it is just the motherboard that is bad. The model number of the motherboard is P4B266-LA, but I can't find anywhere to buy that model. What can I do to replace this motherboard. Is it likely that more is wrong with the computer than just the motherboard?

Thanks

Judging from the model number of motherboard its an Asus branded mobo probably with a custom bios for HP you can POSSIBLY still get them online but it is an older board... plus there is a decent chance that in addition to the motherboard, the ram modules hard drive cd-rom and cpu may have gotten fried too as a result of the high voltage... to me.. this would be a good time to build anew..

Definately Asus but as Kofy said probably custom HP, based on Intels 845 chipset, appears to be full sized ATX (was the most popular P4 platform) so should give you loads of other options as you can still get many motherboards based on this older chipset.
I did find the mint used example on ebay!! that probably will just swop out. Probably?

Unfortunately with this type damage it's always unclear as to what is actually faulty, it's one of those cases of such and see, easy for a PC repair shop with lots of parts to hand but difficult if you are working without spares and doing it yourself.
