This printer stops printing at least once a week with status "paused".
The only way I can get around this problem is to delete the printer on the print server and re-install it.
I've tried using both PS and PCL drivers and it still pauses at least once a week and I have to go over the whole process of re-installation again to get it working.

The print server is windows 2000 and the clients are XP Pro.

I would greatly appreciate any help as it's really frustrating no knowing what's causing it to pause.

What about o/s updates are latest service packs installed on 2000 & XP machines ?
XP SP2 has caused many wierd problems.
What about firmware updates for the printer/jetdirect card?
Have you checked the HP website for this problem ?

Thanks Rick,

Yes, I'm corresponding with hp at the moment.
No, we don't have XPSP2 installed.

What I find very strange is that this printer works fine and then stops for no apparent reason with status message
"Paused-Printing".

Have you tried using the HP webjet management s/w ?
There are log files you can setup for events.

I used HP chat, and after much troubleshooting,
The HP support person directed me to a site with drivers for all hp printers. I tried a driver for HPLJ4200n and
haven't had any problems yet.

However, I couldn't find the web page that HP support directed me to when I visited the HP support site.

I hope the printer doesn't start acting up again.

Thanks

HP has changed their Web site navigation. It's much more difficult to navigate.
I usually use the search function.
Is your printer a 4200n ?
