We have several HP LJ III's, but this is the first time I've seen this error message and I can't really find anything on it. One person told me the DC controller, so we swapped that out, but we still get that message....
The forums aren't much help.....even contacted an authorized HP repair place and they are 'checking into it', since he has not had to deal with that on an LJ III before.
Someone suggested the test buttone may be stuck....fooled with that to no avail.
You can buy a LaserJet 1022 rated at something like 17 ppm for around $200 and that includes the toner. What does the toner cartridge cost for the HP III?
