I maintain a 4100mfp multifunction printer works fine except when "photocopying" documents. It will pull the sheet in but the copied output is slightly wavy and the original does not back out into the output tray. If multiple sheets are to be copied, then the second sheet will jam of course when it hits the first. Since this gradually got worse recently, I'm inclined to think this is wear on rollers that fail to grip well and now fail to pull the paper back out rather than something that just now broke. Yep, maybe 50% chance of being right? Poking around, it looks like one set of roller pushes it in, and another set pulls it out?

Is that a fair assessment? I've never tried to take one of these covers apart. Is there a pickup roller kit I can get for this top part of the "mfp"? Maybe I'll check out eBay again...

Resolved. I looked at an identical MFP model and noticed that a clear mylar or plastic sheet which directs the path of the document in the feeder was out of place. Apparently there had been a paper jam and the 9x5 inch part cut in the shape of a "D" was popped out of place, slightly crinkled. I set it back in its proper place and it works okay now.

There may still be an issue with rollers wearing out, but that's a different matter entirely.
