HP LJ 4100 displaying "***" & long reset times

I have an HP Laserjet 4100 that my users are reporting keeps showing nothing but solid asterisks (*) on it's display. I've reset this printer and it sits on "Initializing" for over 20 minutes. I cant devote the time to standing by the printer until it stops doing this, but at some point it goes back to the solid "*****" display again, possibly before it's able to print for any period of time.

Any thoughts?

you may need to reseat the mem/cmos chips for whatever reason. I'm not sure where they are on that model... but I was having the same problem and thats what HP had me do over the phone for them and things seemed to fix themselves...

Also try reseating the jetdirect card, I have run into some issues/errors that were resolved by doing that.
