Hi. I have an HP LaserJet 4000. Excellent shape, no problems in general. However, whenever I print from Tray 3 (the extra print tray that it's on), it jams. never fails. It's not once in a while, or every so often. It jams every single time I try to put paper in tray 3. I've swapped trays out and that didn't help either.

Could someone point me in the right direction as to what is causing the problem and what can be done to fix?

Thanks

Did you replace the two feed rollers for that tray (top and bottom)?

I haven't done anything to it. When it comes to printers, i'm pretty worthless. Is that something that I can do myself or would it be better to have someone come look at it?

Thanks.

On eBay I've seen paper feed rollers for as low as $10-12 per pair (after factoring in shipping costs) for HP compatible rollers. Search using "laserjet transfer roller" or "laserjet paper feed roller" or similar variations. No doubt genuine HP rollers will cost somewhat more. Very easy to snap off and on... Changing them is a "snap".

The aftermarket rollers may be a mistake, I used some once, and the printer got worse.

I work for a HP ASP and we sell OEM rollers for about the same price as the aftermarket rollers.

First of all is it picking up paper and then jamming somewhere else ie near the fuser? Did the rollers help? If you have swapped trays and that did not fix it then you might want to look at the PIU unit. If you have the manual that came with that printer it can show you how to remove the PIU. It is a bit complicated.
