Hi all,

During July / August we upgraded all our workstations from Windows 98SE to Windows 2K pro. Before we upgraded all our printers were working fine. However, after the upgrade, we have several printers that take anywhere between 1 minute to 20 to print. We've tried upgrading the firmware on the Print Servers (HP JetDirect 500x) and tried different drivers but no luck. The printers we are having problems with are:

HP LaserJet 4050
HP LaserJet 5
HP LaserJet 4000
HP LaserJet 4+

We have other printers (some the same modal) on Intel NetPort Express print servers that are printing normally.

The server is running Win2k Advance Server. All clients have SP4 installed.

Many thanks

Mark

PS. Appoligies if this isn't the right place to post this message.

Have you tried defining the printer port directly on the client rather than using a print share to a server?
See whether the time lag is at the client or server end.

Are you printing to the jetdirect as std. tcp/ip ports or as jetdirect ports? That might also make a difference.

Sorry can't be of more help.

Did you do an upgrade or did you do a fresh install?

I agree - make sure you are printing directly to that port, not through the server, to reduce overhead on the wire. Second step is to go to HP web site and check for some newer drivers. You'd be surprised.

You also may want to check the workstations for the right amount of installed RAM and paper options, if any.

Hi all,

Thanks for your replies.

Good idea to try connecting stright to the printer. The ports are setup up as jetdirect porst (used the software that come with the ports). We also tried updating the drivers before I first posted.

Windows 2000 was a fresh install. I will check the paper and RAM settings to make sure.

Many thanks
Mark
