I am receiving an error 51 on my HP LaserJet series II when I print anything to it.
I read somewhere that this is caused by loose connectors on the scanner assembly or DC controller. Essentially it will involve cracking the unit open.
Has anyone here done this before? I don't even know what those parts look like. I searched for an HP manual on the web w/ no luck.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did you do a search for "HP error codes"? That will get you to help places, and if you need parts you can get them there. Ususally has documentation about the parts replacement procedure. Ed Fair

Any advice I give is my best judgement based on my interpretation of the facts you supply. Help increase my knowledge by providing some feedback, good or bad, on any advice I have given.

Per HP's LaserJet II manual:

Press CONTINUE/RESET to resume operation. Some data loss may occur. If the error continues, call an HP Service Representative.

In my experience that error is usually caused by a faulty scanner to dc controller cable. they are relatively easy to replace and are fairly inexpensive.
