I have a HP LAserjet 5000N and am running Mac OS 10.3.4.
Eveything was fine for a while then suddenly every program (except QuarkXpress 6.0) sees the printer as only printing ot 11" x 17" paper. This happens with Excel, Word, Mail, Acrobat. With some of those applications I get an error on the Pprinter: "79.00FE PRINTER ERROR" and it locks up. I have to restart the printer to get past it. These two issues may be separate. Strange that Quark works. I think Quark may have their own HP Drivers. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Ken Adcock

Hi Ken,

I share your problem, and don't have a solution. Have you figured it out yet?

Martin

I fix the 11" X 17" default paper size issue. Go to the System Prefs and select "Print & Fax". There you should set the default paper size to US Letter or whatever you use.

As for the "79.00FE PRINTER ERROR", this seems to be a Postscript level error and I wish I could get over it. I currently have to have invoices out of FilemakerPro or Excel to PDF documents then open them in Adobe Acrobat to print them. What a pain in the ass that is. HP says its a software issue with mac Mac says its a driver issue. Nobody wants to suggest any fix for it
