hp laserjet 4P

hi everybody, i have a problem with a hp laserjet 4P, i don't know why i can´t configure its IP address, this printer has a pannel where i try to configure the ip address but when i have finished setting all the ip adress, subnet mask, gateway, nothing happens
does anyone know what can i do?

The Ip for a printer in a network can be configured in several ways, depending on whether a networkcard is mounted in the printer internally or a external device is used usually called a printserver. A printserver can however also be a PC set up to manage one printer or more taking care of the jobs and spooling them.

Here are some basic ways of configuring the IP for the printer.

If the printer has an internal or external configurable networkcard :

1) Print out a config. page to see what IP the printer comes up with, by autodetecting the network.
2) Set up the IP via HP`s WebJetAdmin software found here :

3)Download and use the printer install wizzard (HP portmonitor tool) via a webbrowser here : ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/networking/software/hpspm98.exe (Win98) and ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/networking/software/hpspmnt.exe (Win2K, NT & XP) Start off with installing this port monitor driver first, as it afterwards will scan the network and find the printer for you if the iP is unknown.

If the printer is connected via a parallelcable or USB to a PC and shared from there, the IP of the printer would be the hardwarename of the printer fx. //"IP"/HP_LaserJet_4000_Series_PCL5e where the IP is the IP of the PC in the network.
