We have an HP LaserJet 4200 that is printing fuzzy information only after the system gets heated up and a lot of pages have been printed. We were having a jamming problem. The HP repair center fixed that problem. He can not find the 2nd problem.

Any Suggestions?

Thanks in Advance

IT sounds like the fuser unit is not heating up as much as it should,or themp is dropping as the pages go through.A new fuser unit sounds like the answer

Thanks clemee!

I think we will have the technician perform a PM on the printer and have him/her replace parts using the maintenance kit. I think it is time to replace these parts.

You should get a message on the printer when it needs a maintence kit, but these are not accurate because they are based on pages, and if you print over the monthly duty cycle they will wear out faster. Do you know how many pages you have on the printer?

One thing in regards to these printers, and some other HP models, is in regards to the fuser. HP has 2 types of fuser that they like to use. The metal tube hot roller, which is heated by a lamp. The other, which HP calls "Instant On" fusers, used in the 4000 & 5000 series as well as the 4100, 4200, & 4300. And a lot of older models. This type of fuser has a metal heating element that does not rotate, but has a sleeve that rotates as the paper goes through. There is a lubricant between the heating element and the sleeve itself. I've seen where this lubricant can get gummy over time and not let the sleeve rotate like it should. I've seen it a light as only a blurred image, to as bad as it won't rotate at all, and the paper never enters the fuser. We've tried disassembly of the fusers and cleaning the old lubricant off, and reapplying new high temp. And it works for a short time, but eventually gets gummy again. So far, the only thing we've been able to do is replace the fusers.
