Hi, All.

I have a HP Laserjet 4000N and lately, it has been acting strangely. No matter what type of document it prints, if the job is more than 3, 4 page, it gets stuck somehow and a THIS DOC FAILED TO PRINT error will appear on the user's pc. For example, it would print 2 pages of the 5, then it starts printing from page 1 again, then, it stops after 1 page and then restart from the beginning again! I have tried reinstalling the printer driver, the same thing. What can it be? I have a similar problem with the Color Laserjet 4500N too.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks.

If this is a case where it doesn't feed the paper, reports an error, you open/close the requested doors to check the paper path, then it restarts on page 1, then probably your pickup rollers are worn smooth and need replacing. Most printer problems are due to mechanical parts wearing out, such as the rollers. If it is not a paper feed issue, then it might be more serious other problem.

What exactly do you have to do, if anything, to get it to resume printing? "It gets stuck somehow" - mechanically or electronically?

Which version of Windows? Do you have the latest printer drivers downloaded from HP?

The rollers and fuser are includre in a maintenance kit. given the age of the printer you may consider the kit not just the rollers.

Never give up never give in.

There are no short cuts to anything worth doing :)

It could be any kind of doc. It could be a 5 page Word doc or a 15 page PDF. It stuck on PROCESSING JOB, no other error. When we pick up the printout, it will have 1st 2 pages of the job and then all 5 pages of the job. It restarted the job somehow. This happens on both XP and 2000. We have the currently driver and I did tried reinstalling the driver. I don't think it's a paper feeding issue.

Hi there,

I have been repairing and servicing these printers for a few years now, and 9 times out of 10 the error that you are experiencing is down to the amount of memory you have in the printer. HP 5 Colours were more prone to this problem, but anything less than 16mb and you will find that multiple page documents seem to get lost part way through, or just never print. I would strongly advise you scour ebay for some extra ram. Alternatively, if you are using a jetdirect card, it may be that it is playing up. Check with a C-type parallel cable. Hope that helps you.

Hi, CSUKNic.

We have maxed out the the amount of RAM per HP's specification. I also tried reseating and taking out the RAM one by one. No matter how much RAM or which RAM I have in there, the problem still exists.
