I have a printer (HP Laserjet 4 Plus) that at one time was set up using a JetDirect print server with its own IP address on the network. It was eventually moved to a users machine and a couple other users printed to it there but it was connected to the user via a parallel port and was just a shared printer. I was not here when all of that was done.

Now the user has gotten a new color printer but several people still use her old HP Laserjet 4 Plus so I have to set it back up on the network. I have connected it, it has an IP address, and we are able to ping the printer. It does show up on our network.

However, when I try to add it to the server (adding the port) it doesn't have the option. This is a new server so something is probably missing. We have an HP Laserjet printer in another building that is served from that buildings server so we tried to serve this printer off the same one since we had the option to add the port in the settings. It added fine but when we try to print to it it takes a long time and nothing ever prints. I assume this is because the request goes across the street to that server then it has to come back across the street to print the document.

What software do I need to be able to add this printer to my new server so that the users can share it. I know tomorrow morning a couple of people won't be able to print. Or if I don't need software on the printer is there something else I can do to print documents to this printer.

Thanks,
Amanda
