Hello all,

We have a HP laserjet 2300dn. Several days ago, it failed to print a pdf file. The data light flashed first then stayed on. Tried to restart the printer and it hung at "initializing". Eventually I had to cold reset it. It worked for a day then happened again. Reset it, then it worked for another day. This morning I tried to print while the powersave was on. The printer did not wake up. Restarted it and it hung at "hp invent". Cold reset, stuck at hp invent again. unplug everything, then plugged everything back in. Same thing. I must have restarted it 10 or 20 times. Sometimes it got stuck at initializing sometimes it got stuck at hp invent.

Any idea whatelse I can try?

Cathy

You're sure the print jobs aren't just too big for the memory on the device? What if you hook up the printer locally to a desktop, and install a fresh driver. Print several test pages, restart it occasionally? Do you have stability there? What about over the course of one day, can you print text files consistently if the printer is connected locally to a computer with a new driver?

Here are some additional resources, good luck.

Please always take the time to backup any and all data before performing any actions suggested for ANY problem, regardless of how minor a change it might seem. Also test the backup to make sure it is intact.

Thank you for your suggestions.

The first job that caused the printer to stop responding was probably too big. After that, we have tried to print single page text document when it would simply stop responding.

The printer was setup as a network printer. We have had it for about two and half years and it had been doing fine until now.

Yesterday I unplugged everything and let it sit overnight. This morning it started up fine. However, when I used the control panel to print the printer configuration, the configuration page printed fine but the EIO 1 jetdirect page is gone. I went into the menu and the EIO manual input option is gone. I suspect that our jetdirect card is probably dead.

I am going to find a parallel cord and hook it up to a desktop locally like you suggested. (luckily we still have one computer that has a parallel port). If it prints fine then I think I can say the jetdirect is the problem. Then I will need to figure out how to replace a jetdirect card.

Thanks again. Will post again when I know more.

is it a 615 jet direct card?? if so there is a known issue with the 615's and HP will replace them free-- if you call 1800-hpinvent and ask to talk to the jetdirect group.

Yes, the jetdirect card is 615N. I called hp and they sent a new card (620) overnight. Put it in and everything is working now.

Thanks for all your suggestions!
